I get so confused here.....if we have wine with dinner do we tip on the entire check amount or just the food or just what the hay do we do?For simplicity, let's say the dinner portion of the meal...

Yea in Florida we pay tax on prepared foods even for takeaway. Only unprepared foods are untaxed. There are some fine lines there that seem to be open to interpretation by different establishments.

That's the NYC approach as well, where our local tax comes to slightly over 8%. We double the tax for usual service, add or substract as the service warrants.

6% in Florida. Guess we'd have to at least triple it!I always figure 20% is so easy. Anyone can figure 10% by just looking at the amount and moving a decimal. So how hard is it to double that?

Patrick, you obviously do what I do. It is so easy to look at the total bill, know what 10% is and double it. That is the amount of the tip. I think the tax here is 7.50 not sure, not worth bothering...
